Math Workshop

This week we launched the beginning stages of math workshop.  Students are grouped by skills and provided with small group instruction specific to the necessary skill to help further their development as a mathematician.  Our workshop includes technology opportunities twice a week at least for every student, partner games and problem solving, independent practice and teacher facilitated math discussion.  This week our focus has been working on one more, one less and adding zero to any number.  In September we focused on partners of numbers to 10 (addens that equal the whole: partners of 8 could be 0+8, 8+0, 1+7, 7+1, 2+6, 6+2, 3+5, 5+3) and now we will be moving into a unit focusing on a variety of addition and subtraction strategies.  Math workshop will be focused around our unit with additional skill work to help students to be successful with that content.
