Watching them shine...

The students loved reading with you all in the classroom.  The confidence they have in their classroom environment was evident in the books they chose to share with you!  These are books students have self selected by interest that are in their independent reading range.  When they read text in these areas, they are able to focus on problem solving and using more than one strategy at a time.

The goals when they book shop for just right books are:
  • Students find books that they are interested in
  • Students stumble 5ish times or less on their 1st read
  • Students can read easily and smoothly on their 2nd read
  • Students can retell the text
  • Students can make a connection to the text
If you saw inside your child's book box, you may have noticed many types of texts, mostly self selected.  They have books that they read the pictures in, books with their names in them, sticker books, letter books, fiction, informational, and chapter books.

We celebrate each of these ways of reading!
