Math mountains

Students have been practicing solving math addition and subtraction problems using math mountains and tumblers.   The total is always at the top of the math mountain, students draw tumblers to match the number partners that equal the total at the top of the mountain.

Questions to ask your child:

If 10 is the total, how many different math mountains can the students make?

What are switch partners?

Give your child a total and a partner and ask them to solve for the unknown partner.  Have them draw the math mountain to prove their thinking!  10=x+4
What is the missing partner?
