Students closed their eyes as they explored their sense of touch. After everyone had a chance to feel the textures, the students used descriptors to describe what they felt. It was a challenge for them to not just say what they thought the item was but rather how it felt against their skin. We explored cotton balls, snake skin (fake, of course), wool, tinfoil both smooth and crumpled, and sand paper. We discovered that you can use the same words to describe a variety of materials even when they look nothing a like.
