Listening is a large part of the Language Arts standards in first grade. Halloween gave us our first of many fun opportunities to try a guided listening art project. I described each step verbally and the students used their pencils to represent their understanding of the step, I then modeled an example to support them if they needed it. We completed our Frankensteins in pencil and then traced our drawings in sharpie marker to make them "pop" and guide them where to apply the watercolor.
I was so impressed with these fabulous works of art, each unique and beautiful yet all rooted from the same set of instructions. It was a great visual for the students to help them understand that sometimes their understanding of something is different from their peers.
