Friday we wrapped up the day with Mr. Swartz as the mystery reader.  The students enjoyed Pirates Don’t Change Diapers.

Mrs.  Swartz read Zero to the class on Thursday as our mystery reader. What a great book about numbers and the value of everyone.

Math memory

Students are working on finding equal representations of numbers, here they are matching the expanded notation to the matching numeral.  This game is a great game to play at home.  Students say 10+6 is the same as 16 when they get their match.  

St. Patty’s fun

Finnley, her mother and her grandma Kathy joined the class for some Irish fun.  The students decorated their own St. Patty’s day crown.  Thank you Nolan family for this fun activity, we loved it!



 

Mystery Reader #5

Mystery reader #5 was Mrs. Bilacic.  She shared her favorite book, The Day the Crayons Quit.  The students love this story and are ready for the sequel.

What Research Can Look Like...

Students love learning about multiple meanings of words.  Last week we talked about the word bug.  Students used prior knowledge and life experiences to think about what in life that bugs them.  We used books, photos and words to explore bugs and learn about a variety of insects.  Everyone loved digging into the text features and used many to help them learn from the information in the books in the classroom.

Strawberries, red peppers, raspberries, watermelon, honey crisp apples, cherry tomatoes, salsa, dried cherries, dried cranberries, frozen tart cherries, blueberries, blackberries, blue corn tortilla chips, clementines, goldfish, carrots, cantaloupe, orange peppers, dried apricots, cheese sticks, popcorn, cauliflower, pears, hard boiled egg whites, kale chips, dried broccoli, lightly salted peas, melon, oh my!

Mystery Reader #4

Mystery reader number four shared a seasonal favorite from his own family. Mr. Taylor, read Max’s Easter Surprise by Rosemary Wells.  We loved hearing a family favorite and the kids loved talking about their connections to the story.

  

Mystery Reader #3

Mrs. Ullery-Smith was mystery reader number 3.  The students loved hearing Violet the Pilot.  What a great way to wrap up our week!


  

Mystery Reader #2

Mr Walter surprised the students by reading Robert the Rose Horse by Joan Heilbroner. The kids loved hearing how Robert the Rose Horse used something that he struggled with to help others.
